Bargain Vegetables

Welcome to my new follower Renee.

Today I went up to Asda as I had heard about the 20p vegetables.

They had parsnips, carrots and sprouts.

I only bought some sprouts and carrots.

I will prepare both bags of sprouts and keep them in the freezer, then on Christmas day, I will stir fry some them with chestnuts and bacon, I have carrots and parsnips already prepared in the freezer so they will just need to be drizzled with honey and oil before roasting, and also the red cabbage is in the freezer. So all the veg prep will be sorted, I will just need to prepare the potatoes, we tried some of the frozen ones which I got for free the other week, but decided fresh roasties are best. The frozen ones won't be wasted we just don't want them on Christmas day.

I did come away with some yellow stickers as well.

Tomatoes were 69p
I paid 31p

I don't usually by prepared vegetables but this soup mix was 75p down to 39p, it contains, swede, carrots, potatoes, onions and parsley, I have already made it into soup,  I added vegetable stock, seasoning, a pinch of mixed herbs, and a generous handful of the dried soup mix and a big squirt of tomato puree.

It made good few portions.

I did need eggs but decided you can never have too many eggs so picked up three boxes, I think they must have over ordered as there were hundreds of boxes.

We are having a buffet on Christmas Eve and I am going to make Nigella's devilled eggs, and on Christmas Day we are having poached eggs with ham and cold meats for breakfast so that will use a few of them.

I also spotted some of our favourite butter, we haven't had this for a long time because it hasn't been on promotion for a long time, it went up to £2.50 and even more in some supermarkets so I stopped buying it, but it is in Asda for £1.50 now.

I come away from the supermarket very happy when I don't have to pay normal prices.

I still have a few things to get for Christmas, but that will have to wait until the end of the week, it was crazy in the supermarket today, so goodness knows what it will be like next time.
