Frugal Friday

Washing out in the free fresh air, bit of a breeze and the sun is warm in places so drying a bit today. Will be finished off on the airer.

Good water saved for flushing.

Bulk buying our favourite baked beans - £3.49 in Farm Foods.

Cards made from recycling images from old cards and magazines (free to me magazines of course)

Some more books, cd's and dvd's sorted, ready to send to Ziffit.

Freshly squeezed orange juice using some of my 9p yellow sticker oranges.

The car left at home, walking to get some eggs.

Can you see the Squirrel?
He made a mad dash across the road.

I can confirm the squirrel got to the tree on the other side of the road safely.

Back home putting my feet up for a while and reading some free from freecycle magazines.

I love this simple, frugal life we lead.

  1. Lovely post Marlene. It's all those little changes that make the biggest impact on savings. They become second nature. Glad the squirrel made it! Have a lovely weekend.

  4. A great post Marlene. The simple things in life are definitely the best. I wish the weather here wasn't so damp and I could get some washing on the line. I'm very pleased the squirrel made it across the road ok. ☺ X

    1. Thankyou Jules, simple is best, it is nice to get washing out without it freezing solid. I am glad about the Squirrel, if it had gone the other way I would have been most upset xx

  5. Sounds lovely, my mum passes magazines on to me and I really enjoy them.

Washing outside to dry here today too, and it was pleasant enough for me to fill the green bin with more garden waste.

    1. Nice to get the washing out even if it only half drys it's a bonus. Well done on venturing into the garden, I might see if I can brave it tomorrow, I have several jobs which need doing. It is nice to have some free magazines, have a great weekend.

  8. The simpler life is, the better, I think. Warmth, good food, a walk in the fresh air, even seeing a squirrel, all very pleasing, even comforting. We were out today and although it was bitterly cold we looked across Torbay and while it was cloudy, the sun shone through breaks in the grey clouds and shards of soft, hazy sunlight shone like spotlights in a theatre onto the silvery sea. Magic.
Those cards you have made look lovely. Do you buy special card onto which you stick the photos, Marlene?
Regarding water saving for the garden/flushing the loo, etc. Until I got a bit fed up with it (and knowing full well we pay dearly for water as Devon has the highest water rates in the country) we used to use our 4 litre milk bottles (those plastic cartons) and use them for the run-off from the hot tap before the hot water came through. You'd be surprised at how much of the water runs off before it becomes hot for washing up or even washing some 'smalls' in the sink. But I got a bit fed up seeing all the plastic bottles lined up next to the lavatory, but if one is being truly frugal, this is another way of saving water. Also, a dear friend (now deceased) used to have a couple of plastic buckets I in the shower and that caught water in them, too, for the garden.

    1. You are so right Margaret simple is better, your walk sounded really nice. We keep a bucket in the bath, we don't really use the bath much so the bucket doesn't really get in the way. I just use shop bought card blanks, once I have used my supplies I won't buy any more as I will have enough cards to last for years, I use to make them when we lived in a more rural area in Devon, to save paying the ridiculous prices in the newsagents and post office, but now we are in the city I can find a good deal on most things, have a lovely weekend.

  9. .... and I love that you love your life so much. It's nice reading blogs where the author is just happy to be themselves.

I need to share a photo of a bird I took a photo of a few weeks ago. I've no idea what it what, or if it's a wild bird or someone's escaped pet. It was so pretty. I'm sure you'd know what it is. I'll have to remember to upload a photo later on this week.

Hope you are having a lovely weekend.
    xx

  10. I just love line-dried washing. All I knew growing up which has made me very tight with the tumbley. Think hubby is finally getting the message!
